Aquatic plants require carbon dioxide to flourish. In nature, this Co2 is supplied by natural processes such as decomposition and surface absorbption. In an aquarium, however, it is necessary to artificially supply carbon dioxide for optimual plant growth. This supply of Co2 should be monitored and controlled through the use of a bubble counter such as the Co2 Bubble Counter Ball.
It is necessary to accurately measure the rate of carbon dioxide injection for several reasons. Insufficient Co2 will cause plant growth to suffer while too much Co2 can adversely affect shrimp, fish, and other livestock. The easiest way to do this is with a bubble counter.
